Notes from a Small Island
3 journalers for this copy...
I always enjoy Bill Bryson's writing, and this is no exception. I've always wanted to travel the UK more extensively (a few days in London don't count) and this book makes me feel that I know a bit more- just enough, anyway, to know where I want to explore, given a chance.
Sent to Bookcrosser Karschtl in Germany.

Book arrived savely in Germany. I'm soo happy, my first book that travelled over the big ocean.
I like Bryson's style of writing, his funny ways to describe small things that most people (tourist) don't even notice when they visit a foreign country. I'm sure this book will be as good as his others.
Thanks again to Chellis for this RABCK!!!!

My Review: Jan 2005
I read the book while I was in London for New Years Eve.
And I must say that I really learned a couple of things from the book. For example what "en suite" means and what the yellow lightpoles on pedestrian crossings are called.
I could also relate to Bryson's experience with small bed&breakfast-hotels. Ours wasn't the Hilton either... :-)
Unfortunately he didn't wrote about London but concentrated on visiting small villages on his travel through Britain. All throughout the book I was wondering if he travels because he likes it so much and the book is only a sideproduct. Or is writing a book the main task and for that he has to travel.
By the way, while I was in London I bought another Bill Bryson. "Made in America", so I'm not running out on books by him. :-)
Thanks again to Chellis for sending me this book!!!
