A most enjoyable book. I love a good mystery/supernatural story.

Ian Jarrett, a photographer, is working in Vienna when he meets a mysterious woman by the name of Marian Esquard and begins an affair with her which culminates in leaving his wife and daughter for her. Marian disappears and Ian tries to find her.

During his search, he finds that Marian has the same name of an early 19th century woman who discovers modern photography but receives none of the credit. None of the pictures of her Ian took came out. Can Marian be a ghost?

Ian soon uncovers blackmail, murder, and deception amongst the people he finds who help and hinder him in his search for Marian.

Though Ian is not necessarily a sympathetic character, one comes to feel for his plight in the end. Obsession is a dangerous thing.........
