Summer, 1954.
U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels has come to Shutter Island, home of Ashecliffe Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Along with his partner, Chuck Aule, he sets out to find an escaped patient, a murderess named Rachel Solando, as a hurricane bears down upon them.
But nothing at Ashecliffe Hospital is what it seems.
And neither is Teddy Daniels.

I loved this book. What a twist in the end! I am sending this on it's bookray.
Excellent catch...nice to meet you pjmom8025! On to this one as soon as I finish the East of Eden tome. Thanks again for including me in the ring.
Great Book. A bit disconcerting. So many twists and turns you aren't sure what to believe by the last page. Gotta admit, though...it was one of those books you "want" to end differently. Thanks pjmom8025 for another great read!
Oh my..totally wrong dates! This was sent out on Monday, July 12th as it didn't make Saturday's (July 10th) USPS cut-off. Sent to casperette.
Arrived in todays mail. I read Mystic River and loved the book! The movie came out, hated the movie. This book looks really good so I will get to this as quickly as possible. I have a few bookrings ahead of it (had a mail rush recently) but I will push on and get through it soon.
When this book first arrived I was wondering why I signed up for this ring. I mean, really, a book on a prison on an island??? What was I thinking???
Then I remembered... oh yeah... Dennis Lehane .... Mystic River - which I had loved. So why not a book on a prison?
I picked it up two days ago and I have hardly been able to put it down! Reading it early in the morning before I get up and late at night when I really should be sleeping!
Dennis has such a way to capture you right from the start. I loved the writing style, I loved the whole setting, the characters... everything!
When you get going on this book you realize that Dennis Lehane has a wonderful mind. He is a smart - SMART author who leaves you wondering how he ever came up with such a complex, wonderful idea as Shutter Island.
I have to hand it to Dennis, that is two for two in my book. I will definately read anything that man writes. What a deep and truly incredible author.
Thank you to pjmom8025. This has been a great experience and a book I feel I will miss as it heads on to new territories.

Got this Thursday, started reading yesterday, and can't put it down...loved Mystic River, hated the movie (yep, me too!)and so far..wow!
Sigh...is it because of the kind of day I had (cat barfed, got locked out of the house, had to have a blood test)? Am I just in an ornery mood? I did read this at a pretty fast clip, but he (Lehane) started to lose me at the end. I have a real aversion to books that use dreams as a prominent device to advance the plot. If anyone wants to PM me to let me know what the H-E-double toothpicks happened at the end, I wouldn't delete their message. I kept thinking of that season of Dallas where the whole thing was a dream (dating myself)...
I couldn't put it down until the last three chapters - the codes - the names -the is he or isn't he...I'm lost...someone illuminate me (via PM, let's not give it away!)

Mailed to next BCer on the list today via USPS Media Mail..enjoy!
Got this one in the mail last week. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Oh Yay!! It arrived and now I know how I'll spend the week-end:) Thanks for including me on this ring, I've been wanting to read this book for quite awhile.
I really enjoyed this story. I thought the very gothic flavor of the setting contrasted well with the post WW II era hero's problems. The plot line is such that it's unclear whether we're experiencing the fugue state of a man who's seen too much, or a truly monumental conspiracy until the bitter end.
I will be getting this out to Ixion by the beginning of the week.

I got this in the mail today, thanks Jamie. Will read as soon as I'm done with my current book.
Eh, sorry, this just isn't my kind of book. I've made it to page 45 and I just can't get myself to keep reading it. There's no sense in holding up the bookray if I can't finish it. I think I've learned I'm much more of a science fiction and fantasy buff since I had originally signed up for this ray 5 months ago. Thanks for letting me take part!
I have Kymberlie's address and will mail on 12/08 or 12/09.
