Morse still the best grumpy old opera-lovin' real-ale-swilling Oxford-based 'tec with an ulcer...bar none. Fitting that this is my 200th release, woo hoo

This is the first Morse book I've read and I guess it's quite an early one. At one point a character pulls out a pound note. That dates it as pre 1985. I found the style a bit off putting. Colin Dexter seemed to like empasising spelling and grammer, neither of which are my strong points as my journal entries show. But he spends too much time over it in this book and tries to be too clever sometimes. A quick and easy read though and not easy to guess the murderer so I will read more by him

MrRedhouse says he has too much to read...he should see my lot!
I'm releasing this into my Bookbox#9 "Move It On". With a bit of luck someone will take it out before it gets back to dodau!

Took this one out of the "Move it on" bookbox because I've suddenly got into Agatha Christie's Poirot books and fancied reading this one to see how it compared. I enjoyed it but it didn't have the same appeal to me as the Poirot mysteries - somehow the characters feel much rounder in those books and I really find myself compusively reading on. This one just didn't have the same draw. Morse is a fantastic character though, as is Lewis, and parts of it really made me laugh. A good read.
