Not to be read by the pusilanimous! Alright, I'm showing off, I mean the fainthearted!

This is the true and really evil story of 4 young boys, who lived in a very poor neighbourhood, who committed one prank too many which went disastrously wrong and almost took the life of an innocent bystander and the livelihood of another. Yes, the lads needed to be punished and they were sent to a reformatory school for between a year and 18 months but it's what happened in the prison run by an indifferent governor and 4 sadistic guards that absolutely beggars belief. These children were 11 years old and their childhood was taken from them in the most brutal fashion imaginable.

The guards beat them, raped, buggered and tortured them almost to death and nobody did a thing. When released they were too ashamed to report them or even speak to anybody about their ordeal. It changed their lives forever. Incredibly, 11 years later two of the guys espy one of the ex-guards having a meal in a bar. Before shooting him dead, in front of numerous witnesses, they let him know who they are just to watch his face pale in horror. Of course they are arrested. The two young men have now turned out to be quite vicious criminals but always stayed friends with the other two. One works for a newspaper and the other is a lawyer!

The lawyer volunteers to be the one who prosecutes them because he comes from the same neighbourhood but does not reveal his connection to them. His very audacious plan is to lose the case and free the prisoners!

The book was apparently made into a film, but I do not remember it. The names and places have apparently all been changed to protect the people involved and it all seems too far fetched to be true, but whether part fiction or not it is a very good read.
