The story of an American Nurse and an Israeli Freedom Fighter caught up in the most dramatic event of the 20th century. A historical novel.

"The book Exodus is a fabulous introductory text about the history of the founding of the state of Israel. It tells the story of the people and places that made Israel what it is today. Leon Uris weaves several amazing stories into a historical fiction with some of the most descriptive, evocative literature ever written.

Exodus is not a story of only one person. Uris was able to interlace the stories of several different characters into a common time and place while still developing each character very well. The novel itself, was surprisingly accurate, almost every event mentioned occurred when it was listed and happened as Uris described it. Maybe that's why Uris himself spent years researching his tale.

I particularly liked the book for several reasons. First, Mr. Uris wrote the book from the standpoint of several different characters, which allows the reader to develop several different opinions about the events taking place. Second, because there are so many characters, there are more heart stopping moments, moments when you laugh or cry. Finally, Leon Uris' imagination allowed for the characters within the story of Israel have a story all there own which is at least as heart pounding as the story of their homeland.

Exodus is truly a must read for those who know little about the foundation of the modern state of Israel and would like to learn more. I highly recommend this book to anyone."

Found this book in a box of old books from my uncle. It's a Bantam Book, pocket, from 1959 in good state. I want to send it out as an international bookray. Who wants to join?

1 maupi (The Netherlands)
2 H0BB1T (Spain)
3 Book has been released into the wild...
4 ... and caught by WAM

This bookray starts in July.
Please take your time to read it and do not feel rushed.
When you finish reading or do not want to read it anymore send it on to the next on the list. If you are the last person on the list, you can do what you want with it.

Well here's the thing: I haven't read this one (yet?), but I just discovered that I actually have a copy myself which was hidden, second row on my bookshelves. One of those things that come to light when preparing a move ;-)
Now this copy can move on to the next in the ray, HOBB1T, as soon as I have an address. If I come round to reading the book, I'll add some of my thoughts about it.

Sent to H0BB1T today: 1 September 2004

It is a great book that shows us where the origins of the actual conflict in middle East come from. Very interesting to read.

I should explain that "Wam's lion" is not named so because I catch books there, but because I started dropping books under its tail. Anyhow, this time I was taking a walk on friday evening past the monument, I took a glimpse and surprise!, there were two books hidden behindthe lion. Very carefully protected inside their wheather-proof bags... Thank you, HOBB1T.

I read the book long ago, and even if I remember it as very interesting, one of these books one can't put down, and very illustrative of what happened in that fascinating moment in history when the State of Israel was created, I don't think I will now be able to put up with all that ideology behind the book, knowing how things have evolved and what is happening in the area.

So I will free the book again soon, may be at the same place.
