From Amazon:
Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is shocked to find proof that the legendary secret society, the Illuminati--dedicated since the time of Galileo to promoting the interests of science and condemning the blind faith of Catholicism--is alive, well, and murderously active. Brilliant physicist Leonardo Vetra has been murdered, his eyes plucked out and the society's ancient symbol branded upon his chest. His final discovery, anti-matter, the most powerful and dangerous energy source known to man, has disappeared--only to be hidden somewhere beneath Vatican City on the eve of the election of a new pope. Langdon and Vittoria, Vetra's daughter and colleague, embark on a frantic hunt through the streets, churches and catacombs of Rome, following a 400-year-old trail to the lair of the Illuminati, to prevent the incineration of civilisation.

started the journey :o)
Just received this today, thank you Helly77. I will try to read within the next month and send it along on its journey to Brewster13. Can't wait to read this! "Loves It"
Great read, just couldn't put it down! Will ship to Brewster13 shortly. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. Can't say much more, as I don't want to spoil anything.
Just received in the mail. I have several bookrings and rays ahead of this one, but have added it to the list and will get to it as soon as I can!
Thanks -- Brew
Thanks -- Brew
This was an absolutely fantastic book ... I thoroughly enjoyed this from cover to cover. IMO - much better than Da Vinci Code. It was well-paced, and the plot twists and turns throughout the book kept me wanting to read more and more (I definitely lost some sleep to reading this book!!). Usually I find something so implausible in a suspense novel such as this that I can't get past and the story is ruined, but Dan Brown can somehow make even the most improbable situations somehow plausible -- and that makes for great reading!! "The suspension of disbelief"
Thank you for sharing this fantastic book, Helly77
I have PM'd LeeD twice so far, and will mail as soon as I hear back from them. Brew

Received it in mail September 3! Sorry I wasn't watching my email closer. Will read quickly, as DaVinci code only took a week, and this one looks better!
Just arrived. I'm afraid it may take a while until I get to it, since I have another book to finish first, and then another ring book that came yesterday. I'll try not to keep it too long, though.
I'm afraid that I cannot agree completely with the remarks of earlier readers. It was certainly a good read, and I completely agree with MCLANDRY and Brewster13 that it was all but impossible to put it down.
However, I feel it wasn't that unpredictable. It didn't take me too long to figure out who the bad guy (Master, was it?) was. I do have to admit that I kept feeling that I must've made a mistake; I just couldn't believe it would be him/her. I did like the idea of the Path of Illumination and the fact that one needed to solve puzzles to get through it. The clues were pretty straightforward, though (I knew water from the very beginning!).
The thing that annoyed me most, however, was Robert Langdon. On the one hand, he is far too much a hero (considering he's an aging scholar); on the other hand, most of the intellectual work he does in this book, is guesswork or just good eyesight. Where he is more of a symbologist in the Da Vinci Code, he's "just" an unlikely hero in this book.
Which is not to say I didn't enjoy reading the book. It took some glossing over some horribly impossible things (I won't even start about the science-part!), that unfortunately amassed in the finale of the book. For a nice and careless read, however, it was fun. But I do think I have read enough Dan Brown's for now.
I'll contact Helly77 sometime soon to get the book safely home again.
