An interesting retelling of Rumplestiltskin. I'm not sure if I would like my teenagers reading it. There is a suggestive portion at the beginning, but I did enjoy it.

Being sent to Lpree in the US. Happy travelling little book!

Journal Entry 4 by Lpree from Omaha, Nebraska USA on Thursday, July 1, 2004
This arrived in today's mail, along with two other bookrings. With the exception of one, all the bookrings I have are fairly small books, so I hope to get through this within the next two weeks.

Oh wow, this was a great little story! Perhaps I was a bit slow, but I was halfway through the book before I realized who was who in relation to the fairy tale. I really like that it shows you another side to the fairy tale. I will definitely search out for more by this author.

I've PMd MollyGrue for her address and will try to get this mailed out sometime this week.

UPDATE 7/12 - Sent first class (because it was cheaper than media mail, actually) today to MollyGrue. Enjoy!

Journal Entry 6 by MollyGrue from Tacoma, Washington USA on Friday, July 16, 2004
I got this yesterday. Will read soon.

I just finished this. I loved it. Absolutely marvelous re-telling. I also thought the "adult" issues were handled extremely well. I'm definitely going to look for this book for myself.

Will mail this weekend!

Journal Entry 10 by wingsgscarcliffwing on Tuesday, August 10, 2004
I really enjoyed the book. Thanks for sharing.

This a nice quick read, a nice comparison to more indepth books.

I would have like it better if the ending had been a happy ending. But it is a nice background to the traditional fairy tale.

I am mailing today

I got the book in one day! I'm sure I will be finished very soon. Thank you so much for adding me to this bookring!!!

Journal Entry 12 by fizzfred from Sacramento, California USA on Saturday, August 14, 2004
This was a fun romp through an old fairy tale. I never could understand why he wanted her first born, other than that is just what people do in fairy tales. I liked the explanation in this version. It did use what I consider THE most annoying plot device though... people not telling eachother how they feel. I couldn't help thinking that if the spinner just told Saskia the whole story everything would have worked out. :)

Zarylia's bookshelf says she/he is on vacation until 8/16. I will send it on as soon as I get an address.

Sent to Zarylia today. Enjoy!

Warsaw/Poland - Got this in the mail and it looks so good! It's all I can do to keep from sitting down this very moment and reading it cover to cover. Fairy-tale retellings are one of my many weaknesses and this looks to be a good one! It's going to have to sit on my shelf for a bit as a couple other bookrings got here first, but no worries, once I pick it up it won't take me long at all. :-D

Journal Entry 15 by Zarylia from Saint Paul, Minnesota USA on Sunday, September 19, 2004
Warsaw/Poland - Hmmmm.....interesting book. Very dark. I didn't know whether to like the spinner, or hate him because sometimes he was just so cold. I also REALLY didn't like Saskia's mother, "the young woman", she was so awful to the man she supposedly loved, so shallow. Anyway, it was a very interesting character study of "the spinner". I found it difficult to believe at times, how old Saskia was. At one time she tells the king that she will be 15 in a week; thinking about myself I'm not sure how believable that is. She did have a pretty awful life though, so maybe she could be that mature. Ok, back to "the spinner", what a study in opposites. He is desperately looking for love, but he is so cold and harsh at the same time. He goes about getting love completely the wrong way. I guess that sounds like a lot of people, but towards the end he's just so twisted, it's like when his leg twisted it twisted his personality too. Very sad. Interesting book though, I'm glad I read it. I'll try and get this in the mail to katayoun soon. Thanks lauraloo29 for starting this ring! :-D

Other books by Donna Jo Napoli people might like are "Beast" and "Sirena", I think they're both completely wonderful. ;-)

Warsaw/Poland - Sorry it took me forever to journal this but the book should be on it's way to katayoun in Iran. Thanks for including me! :-D

Journal Entry 17 by winglauraloo29wing from Edmonton, Alberta Canada on Sunday, April 17, 2005
Katayoun and I both agree that this book should have arrived by now. 6 months is just too long. So I am sadly declaring this little book lost. Perhaps it will be appear again some day.

Journal Entry 18 by lostbookisland on Sunday, October 23, 2005
Well, Poland to Iran should not take more than a year and so this book comes to visit at the Lost Book Island. It is hoped that this book did indeed find its destination but one can never know unless a journal entry is made.

This book will be allowed to take a break from traveling the postal system wilds and stay at the Lost Book Island Resort where it may lounge by the pool, sip a cool drink, or whatever else its little bookish heart desires. It is hoped that a new journal entry will come soon to put all the worried minds to rest that this book is lost no more.
