Wonderful story about a 10 year-old boy who loses his grandmother, and his search for something to remember her by. I read this with my daughter and we both loved it. The little sister in the book is very funny.

I received this book in the mail today from Catwoman as part of a trade. This sounds like a good children's book. Thanks!

I enjoyed this story. I agree that the little sister (Joanie) is very funny. What Spoon eventually finds to remember his grandmother by is unexpected and touching. Thanks for sharing, Catwoman!

raralovestoread, you had no idea how much sending this book would wind up meaning to me. I started it at lunch, then was barely able to wait to get home to finish the book.

In the first chapter, this little book grabbed my heart and wouldn't let go. You see, my grandmother and grandfather passed in 2001. My grandmother from diabetes, my grandfather from heart disease (though hastened by heartache). When we boxed and sorted through my grandmother's things for my grandfather, I slipped the pair white sunglasses she always wore and her little blue dress that I have so many pictures of her in into my bags and told no one. I needed that something to keep her alive in my heart because the photographs weren't the same.

When my grandfather passed months later, it was one of his hats (he always wore a hat when he went anywhere) and one of his pipes that I can still smell the tobacco in that found there way into my bags before heading home.

All of these treasures sit in my closet, the dress hanging with my clothes, the hat among mine, the pipe and sunglasses sit on the shelf above. Whenever I look at them, I had flashes of memories of them both that make me smile.

Thank you for selecting this book for me in the "Expand My Horizons" book relay, from the bottom of my heart. Now to find someone to give this book to who will find this book as much if not more wonderful than I did.

picked up on bookrelay- thanks for offering and sending sistert :) I am familiar with the author's work from his picture books for younger children- interested in reading this and seeing how he writes for older children and adults.

I was familiar with this author for his picture books- this was the first chapter book I read by him. I thought it was an easy read and a cute story. Perhaps I will wild-release it as it seems it's not on anyone's wish list at this time.
