I got this book at a local Savers thrift shop. It's from a series of books about "never told" trivia, this one themed on wars. As with many such books, I already knew some of the tidbits here - the Sacred Band of Thebes, warrior queen Boudicca, the Christmas Truce of 1914, etc. - but there were other entries that were new to me, often featuring some surprising aspects of wartime as inspiration for fashion or for not-obviously-war-related inventions such as pencils. A good book to dip into at intervals. (It features a bibliography at the end, for those who'd like to dig deeper; I always appreciate that!)

I plan to leave this book, bagged against the elements, somewhere near the intersection of Quincy and Foundry Streets - behind the post office and near the huge, awesome mural honoring the armed forces. Hope someone enjoys the book!
