Thanks for saving this for me!

I think I must have read another book in this series at some point. It's not because I remember the characters in particular, it's the odd dialogue that I remember, it's so formal and stilted. Real people don't talk the way most of these character do, they are almost caricatures of themselves.
The mystery itself was interesting but it unwound so s-l-o-w-l-y and then ended in a big, rushed, finale.
It starts of as a bit of a ghost story, then throw in a 30 year cold case, a cult and some red-herring deaths. The author hit as many tropes as she could. I can't say I truly enjoyed it , mostly because the dialogue was distracting and the saint-like virtue of Jackman started to grate on me about half way through- but the mystery itself was interesting and engaged me enough to keep going.
Thanks Blackjax21!
