A Boys Own Story
2 journalers for this copy...
This book is really well written and a great insight to what could (i can imagine)quite possibly go on inside the head of a teenage boy who is homosexual, but living in a hetrosexual world. The ending did leave me wanting to know what would happen to him as an adult.
At home, in school, and on the streets, a homosexual teenager moves through comic sexual experiments, isolation, fear, and exciting expectations toward an escape from childhood and a firm sense of self.

Life for a teenager can be hard enough as it is, trying to find your own identity among so many conflicting pressures - how much harder to be a gay teenager at a time when homosexuality was considered an illness. The cover compares the book to Catcher in the Rye, but I much prefer this book - unlike Catcher, the central character of A Boy's Own Story is entirely sympathetic, and much more human.
Thanks, caffcaff, a good read.
