trade-size paperback.

from the back cover:
When Framboise Simon returns to a small village on the banks of the Loire, the locals do not recognize her as the daughter of the infamous woman they hold responsible for a tragedy during the German occupation years ago. But the past and present are inextricably entwined, particularly in a scrapbook of recipes and memories that Framboise has inherited from her mother. And soon Framboise will realize that the journal also contains the key to the tragedy that indelibly marked that summer of her ninth year.

I saw the release notification for this book and decided to snag it. I'm about to go on a trip to Europe, and it seemed fitting to take this along with me to release again in France :)

I've actually read this before - about 16 years ago. I dug up the old journal entry, which said:

"I enjoyed this book - although it was quite complex and skipped around (chronologically) many times. The story was captivating and the characters (even if not always likable) were intriguing. At the end, I couldn't help feeling that there must be more, or that maybe I had missed something, as it seems that some of the questions in my mind hadn't been answered. Or, it may just be that the author wanted it that way :) Overall, an intriguing tale and as others have said, full of characters who seem to stay with you even after the book is done."
