Mr Flutterbies9 bought this as he is a Sherlock Holmes fan and thought this may have interest although he has been disappointed by some Sherlock theme offshoot books.

Cover.
"The Dragon God Cult Awakes
Astraia Holmes, sister of Sherlock and Mycroft, is baffled by a series of brutal murders committed by a dragon-like assailant. Wishing to impress her brothers and desperate to solve the crimes, she teams up with a strange new friend, the brilliant Madeleine Barquist. The clues point to a Chinese Dragon cult known as the Ya Zi, a warrior society originally formed two thousand years ago to assassinate enemies of the Emperor. Astraia is exultant to finally have a chance to use her own deduction skills. Sherlock fears for his sister's safety, and Madeleine fears the deductive powers of them both for unknown to Astraia and Sherlock, Miss Barquist is the daughter - and killer - of Jack the Ripper. Meanwhile, an ancient evil is quietly gathering allies and preparing to strike."

Mr Flutterbies9 read this almost as soon as he received it and passed it to me saying that he might follow this series to see how it developed as he liked this first book as something different in the Sherlock theme and thought I like it would too. It has been on my tbr for a little while but I plucked it from the top of a tottering pile just the other week and got stuck into its pages.
I am rather glad I did. This does have a subtle feminine quality about the detecting (as well as, obviously, the lead characters) and although there is quite a lot of gore within the plot, it is not glorified or dwelled upon in any way - which always gets my vote, as I am not good with gory or violent scenes.

Both Mycroft and Sherlock make appearances in this book but more as 'brotherly' concerned appearances than anything else. However, having said that, Sherlock does discover Madeleine's secret in the end and makes it clear that he will keep it secret too whilst removing her father's former associate from the scene, whilst Mycroft does his bit in keeping Madeleine's job possible. Lots of good scope here for further adventures from these 2 resourceful women.

I did enjoy this book and would follow it up when the next is available.
