Blurb:
"'This layered tale of color lines, love and struggle in an East Texas oil town is a pit-in-the-stomach family drama that goes down like it should, with pain and fascination, like a mix of sugary medicine and artisanal moonshine.'
-The New York Times Book Review"

This book, among others (The absolutely true diary of a part-time Indian, The bluest eye, the hate you give and The perks of being a wallflower, The 1619 Project), has been recommended by a colleague who reads along with the Pearland Banned Book Society .

What an intense book! For sure, this is NOT a "Feel-good-novel" at all.
It's well written and I specially liked the small chapters.
I felt so much for Wash and Naomi, also for the twins. I took them all into my heart and as I did I felt this pinching unease and I dreaded to keep on reading, but had to keep on reading - I was hardly able to put down the book.
The injustice overwhelmed me in every tiny appearance and also after finishing the book, I can't help feeling a huge gratitude, that at least times changed a bit and are still changing slowly also in the US; grateful that I'm born in different circumstances... and still so sorry, embarrassed and sad and angry on all the injustice still happening out there.
This book is great, overwhelming, terrifying, emotional, exciting and important.
