After reading "Night Blooming", I became an instant fan of Yarbro's and seeing this at 'my' used book store, I bought it on impulse (since I've never seen anything of hers last more than two days there). This one looks really good too. It continues the Saint Germain series, this time with our illustrious vampire in Rome.

Here's a snip from the back of the book:

Rome is a snake pit of vice and conspiracy where even Caesarsa re routinely assassinated and the only constant is the Circus Maximus, the arena where those out of Nero's favor, from gladiators to ex-senators, are torn apart by lions and crocodiles. One of the city's few successful foreign businessmen, Sanct' Germain Ragoczy has so far avoided the treacherous maze of Roman society. But his first mistake will be to fall in love with Olivia, the brutalized wife of a powerful senator. His second will be to help Rogerian, a craftsman mortally wounded by a greedy employer. Now as punishment for his interference, Ragoczy must face the Circus Maximus - as entertainment...

This is the second of Yarbro's books that I have read and the second that I enjoyed. This took me a while to read though because I did have trouble getting into the story and the setting. Once engulfed, I couldn't put it down. Another good read with the lovable Saint Germain.
