Another masterful book from Marillier. In this one, she shares with us the mystery of what could have happened in Orkney between Vikings and the native people of the Isles.
In this story, we meet Eyvind, a warrior from a far away land who travels with Ulf, a pioneer chieftain, the the Isles to settle. Upon arrival, they find the islands inhabited by a Folk, ancient and wise. All is not what it seems though. With them is Somerlend, Ulf's stepbrother, and a tyronous man.
As is now typical of Marillier, she manages to mix adventure and emotion.
Another great book from this very talented writer. Oh yeah, and there's more to the story. "Foxmask", currently available in hard cover, is the conclusion to this saga.
