I found this UK-edition softcover on the book-swap shelf in the Tyngsboro MA post office lobby. It's a novel about two brothers from a Kikuyu tribe in Kenya from 1890 into the 1930s, as they and their families cope with the arrival of Europeans - the "red strangers" - into their midst. [The author's introduction states that most of the incidents she describes are true, though the characters are fictionalized.] Looks to be an epic tragedy, as colonialism damages the long-standing culture of the indigenous people.
