Picked up from the exchange shelf of the Arabia Centre in Helsinki. I'm not into historical mysteries, but for London I will try this out. As it happens, the church in the picture (2019) is the very same St Clements Church on the book's cover (1663). Nowadays it's the central church of the Royal Airforce, so all Victoria Cross pilots and other flying heros have their names on its walls.

Restoration isn’t my strongest period in English history, so reading this his historical mystery was at first a bit difficult to me. Luckily we have the Internet! Court and Whitehall must have been a web of spies and intelligence agents.

Story is full of more or less suspicious and traitorous characters in disguise. Main character Thomas Chaloner was the only one I could relate to at least a bit. Surprisingly court intrigues weren’t the darkest ones in this story. Autopsy businessman i.e. surgeons and body robbers were even worse.
