This read was much more fun than expected. I heard a lot about the book a few years ago when it came out, but I never read the author. So after reading, I find some of those comments at the time, very exaggerated. Of course, you can interpret this book in different ways, and if you want to see it as just fodder for xenophobia, it's possible to see it that way. But as far as I see Islam is more background than the essence of the book, it spice things up and at the same time provides context, without the need to create a whole new set of rules and an invented setting as in "The Handmaid's Tale". There is much more room to discuss the work of Huysmans, the writer who converted to Catholicism in the 19th century, than Islam. The main character isn't particularly interested in politics or religion, which makes him an even more interesting figure to follow in such a transformative time in France (fictional, let's not forget). This is a true page turner, read it in a couple of days. Will release it soon.

The box was quite full of books, I tried to organize it a bit better and left it there. Hope the next reader will drop a message here. Enjoy!
