I bought this from the Cancer Research UK charity shop in Knaresborough yesterday because I was impressed with the other two investigations by DI Ryan and his team that I've read: gripping, although perhaps borderline too gruesome for my taste! Holy Island and High Force.

I may have read only two others when I bought this DCI Ryan mystery but I've been devouring them all year and this is now the 11th I've finished, aiming to read them in order to avoid spoilers.

I must say that I love this series set in the North East, mostly Nortumberland, and this was no exception. That it's partly set in and around a circus is an extra attraction. I haven't been to one for years but still associate them with glitter and glamour - not the murders and danger we find here.

Recommended!
