On to Mt TBR it goes.
Aussie Geraldine Brooks has again produced an enthralling story. This is an informative, eye opening, heartbreaking and poignant read in which centre stage is the moving relationship between a man and a horse. A stellar novel that I recommend highly.

I am so happy to receive this book from my Wishlist, A very favourite author of mine and her latest book!
I very much enjoyed reading this story told in two eras. Geraldine Brooks has once again done excellent research to bring the story of famous stallion Darley/Lexington to life.
She used good imagination to include the young black boy Jarrett and turn him into a highly esteemed trainer, also the modern day telling of retrieving the long forgotten skeleton and the chance discovery of an old horse painting.
As much a story about race relations and slavery as it was about the famous breeding stallion.
I also enjoyed the parallel story about the growing love affair between aussie scientist Jess and Nigerian born art historian Theo.
I thought it was a very sad ending.

Given to my sister to read. She is a prolific reader, and generally journals the Bookcrossing books for me. This may also be of interest to my niece Kylie, who is also a reader and is horse mad
This is the second book I have read by author Geraldine Brooks. I also read the Year of Wonders. I love the way she bases so much of the book on facts, and then builds a story around some pivotal characters that are connected through the generations. It was an interesting insight into slavery and the ongoing prejudice against people of colour. It was full of tragedy and triumph and managed to engage every emotion in me as the reader. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I shall pass this book onto my daughter who has had a passion for horses and horse-riding from a very young age.
