Colonel Hugh Kelso, American Army Officer, is a risk.
News that Kelso has been washed ashore on Nazi-held Jersey after his boat was sunk is met with concern at Allied Headquarters; concern that if he isn't rescued, or silenced, the exact locations, timings and other operational secrets of the D-Day landings - all of which are known to Kelso - will be lost to the enemy.
To solve this problem Allied HQ calls in Harry martineau, a bilingual philosophy professor with a talent for killing, and half-French Sarah Drayton, in whose aunt's house Kelso is sheltering.
They are to impersonate a Nazi officer and his French mistress, bypass enemy lines and ensure, by whatever means necessary, that Kelso's secrets are not revealed.
They both know that this is a charade that will be played out to the death...
