Have heard allot about this, so am looking forward to getting to it eventually.

Journal Entry 2 by Kleptokitty on Saturday, September 10, 2005
This disappointed me somewhat in that it was very sparse. It's double spaced text with lots of white space. I was expecting more body to it, knowing that it launched the V-Day Movement. I found I had to read most of the monologues several times to absorb their impact. There are several which I'm still affected by a few days after reading, but others completely passed me by. I'd like to see this on stage now and would be interested to hear how it compares.

I've been astonished by the interest in reading this book since I offered it up. So here it goes, off on it's international journey. Normal Ring guidelines apply please, respecting those who are after you on the list by keeping it moving.

Thanks for this! What is it about bookrings? Nothing for months then three arrive on the same day. Will get around to this one as soon as possible.

Hmm, I was really looking forward to this, but it is as good as I hoped! Maybe the stage play is more striking?

Sorry I have had it so long - it slipped down behind the bedside table and had to be exhumed from there!

Journal Entry 5 by meddyg on Saturday, March 18, 2006
Came back from a few days in London, to find this through the letterbox. I won't read it yet as I am going to see the stage production in Newcastle upon Tyne the week after next, so don't want to spoil the plot!!!

Many thanks Mrs bridgewater

I saw the play first of all, in Newcastle upon Tyne, and have to say that it certainly carries more emotional punch than the printed word. The theatre was full, mainly women.
However, that is no reason not to read the book, there are some additional pieces (letters etc) that aren't in the play.

The book itself is funny, tragic and above all thought provoking, should be read.

As the blurb to the theatre production said "Read it, even if you don't have a vagina"

Will send onto MellowDaisy

To be posted to Catriona Moore tomorrow (Thursday 27th April)

Arrived safely today, my husband saw the post-it note on the front, looked at the book and quickly replaced the post-it and but the book on a high shelf. ROFL.

I don’t know what I expected from this book. It is often cited as an ultimate feminist tome, yet it did not come across as anti-men. I wondered if I could talk as candidly to an interviewer as some of the women in this book and admire them but I don’t think the book changed me in anyway.

I will pass this on to Molyneux when I have her address.

Sorry everyone - I've had this book for an awfully long time, but I lost it - found it and then promptly lost it again until today, when it turned up in a box of books. This is what comes of trying to tidy up too quickly. Will send to Laura this weekend.

I want to see this on the stage - my sister raved about it - but its so difficult to envisage what it might be like actually being performed!

Received with thanks. Mt TBR #2.

I saw The Vagina Monologues last year and it was good to revist the text.

PMing Martinburo for addy

Thank you - looking forward to it.

I enjoyed this but I certainly wouldn't have got so much out of it if I hadn't already seen the production. The humour seems almost totally lost on the page. I do urge anyone who hasn't done so, to seek out a performance of TVM - this does feel like only half the experience!

Journal Entry 17 by flanners from Havant, Hampshire United Kingdom on Monday, May 21, 2007
Posted to sunflowergirl today - apologies for delay.

Journal Entry 18 by sunflowergirl from Carlisle, Cumbria United Kingdom on Thursday, May 24, 2007
I received this book today, thanks to flanners for sending it on and to kleptokitty for letting me join the bookring.

I've had six bookrings/rays turn up in the last few days so may be a little while getting to this one. After saying that I am now on half-term holidays from college so expect to get plenty of time to read! I then finish college for good in about three weeks so will definitely have lots of spare time to read then, so I shouldn't be too long with the book. I'm looking forward to reading it anyway.

Journal Entry 19 by sunflowergirl from Carlisle, Cumbria United Kingdom on Wednesday, June 13, 2007
I read this book last night and found it to be very thought-provoking. I could really identify with some of the stories in this book and for that reason the book really moved me. It was interesting to read in the letters at the back of the book how many women felt empowered by performing in the stage production and by V-Day.

Thanks for letting me join this bookring.

I've already PM'd TracyR and will get the book in the post once I have her address.

Journal Entry 20 by sunflowergirl from Carlisle, Cumbria United Kingdom on Sunday, June 24, 2007
I posted this book to TracyR by 2nd Class post yesterday so it should be with her soon. Sorry for the delay in sending it on, I've not been too well over the past week and couldn't get out to the Post Office.

Journal Entry 21 by TracyR on Monday, July 2, 2007
Returned from honeymoon to find this book waiting for me. It looks a quick little read, so hopefully it will be on its travels again soon.

Journal Entry 22 by TracyR on Tuesday, July 3, 2007
As i suspected, i got through this last night as it is an easy book to read. Some parts are really laugh out loud funny whilst other parts are tragic.
I saw the stage production last year and really enjoyed that so i am glad to have had the chance to read the book.
Thank you for including me in this ring.
I will Pm for the next address now and get it straight back on its travels again.

Journal Entry 23 by TracyR on Friday, August 17, 2007
So sorry for the delay in posting this, but life has been hectic lately.
Its finally been sent on its travels to Storychaser today.
Sorry again for the delay.

Journal Entry 24 by StoryChaser from Waterlooville, Hampshire United Kingdom on Sunday, August 26, 2007
Just got back from holiday to find this waiting for me, thanks. I have two other books in front of this one, but will get to it ASAP.

Journal Entry 25 by StoryChaser from Waterlooville, Hampshire United Kingdom on Thursday, September 20, 2007
A fascinating and interesting book, which I did try to read in the accents suggested....! I haven't seen the stage production, but I suspect it carries more weight than the book.

Just waiting for Hellie's address and I will send it on.

Journal Entry 26 by StoryChaser from Waterlooville, Hampshire United Kingdom on Wednesday, October 3, 2007
Nothing from Hellie, Drusillamac has asked to be skipped, and Hawkette seems to be in Australia so may as well wait until the ring arrives down under.
Have PM'd Rillaith as she is next in line.
12/10/07
No response from Rillaith, so have PM'd Rossella05.
Rossella05 has asked to be skipped (not having much luck with this....!). Have now PM'd MathildaS.
13/10/07
On its way to MathildaS.

Journal Entry 27 by MathildaS from Dannenfels, Rheinland-Pfalz Germany on Friday, October 19, 2007
Just received the book - Thanks a lot, it will be the next to be read - promised.
