I found this paperback in my Little Free Library, and wanted to register it before putting it back. It's about a girl whose parents send her to Paris in hopes that it will curb her willfulness (Paris? Really? {grin}) - in 1938... She falls for a Frenchman but soon the gathering threat of war disrupts everything.
