I was disappointed in this book. It was mildly amusing, but could have been really funny. I loved the ‘Curious incident of the dog in the night time’ and had the same expectations of this book. George is 57 and recently retired, reading lots of books and building a studio in the back garden. He finds a lesion on his hip and believes it is cancer, even though the Dr has assured him it is only eczema. Then his daughter Katie announces she is getting married for the second time to Ray, who they don’t really like. Jamie his son is gay, and he is not sure how to deal with his partner. George cannot cope, he believes he is dying from cancer, can’t deal with making a speech at the wedding, and has a nervous breakdown.

Another tender, sweet, heartbreaking story from Mark Haddon. That said it is also funny, this author does heartbreaking and funny with such grace and simplicity. Entertaining.
