I found this better than previous books by the same author, but it still creaks under the weight of all its various twists and coincidences. Why is one big denouement never enough anymore?

One day I will read a book with the characters are sensible, talk to each other about their problems and make suitable decisions. Think I managed to guess the main twist about halfway through, some questions were left unanswered though.
