This remarkable book was chosen by Waukesha, Wisconsin as their Big Read this year. The novel is set in Spokane, Washington in the early 1900s, and it deals with *everything* — European immigration, mining, the importance of railroads in that era, the women’s suffrage movement, poverty, and the rights of indigenous peoples. And with all that, it’s still a page-turner, as it follows the travels of two orphaned brothers.
Took this book to my friends on Thanksgiving. I think it’s the kind of read that one or more members of the family will enjoy.
