Historical fiction book I found in a front yard library in Oakville. Rose reflects on her life in letters to her dead husband, as she holds on to her old life, despite events and people around her. Interesting twist near the end.
Paris, France: 1860's. Hundreds of houses are being razed, whole neighborhoods reduced to ashes. By order of Emperor Napoleon III, Baron Haussman has set into motion a series of large-scale renovations that will permanently transform Paris into a modern city.
