Started this third book straight after the second. Trilogies can often deteriorate in quality as they go on, but I think this one was consistently good. I really liked the ending too. Thanks so much for sharing these ones with me. Now to find a good home for them!

I thought volume 1 in this trilogy was very good, volume 2 was meh, and this volume 3 was somewhere in the middle.

The pace of plot and action increased from the previous volume which was a big relief. Mal had stuff to do that wasn't (always) being either moody or romantic. Nicholas was fab as always. Even the Darkling became more interesting again.

Some aspects of the plot still made me roll my eyes though. When reading fantasy novels, I prefer to sense an overall logic which aligns all magical/fantasy elements, rather than them being invented willy-nilly as convenient plot devices. The central twists in this volume fell more into the latter category in my opinion.

Maybe I would have been less harsh on this trilogy if the first volume hadn't reminded me so much of Trudi Canavan's first Dark Magician series which I adore. I may pick up further Leigh Bardugo books again in future, but I don't think I'll particularly seek them out.
