Set in the coastal village of Seahouses, a quiet rural area - until a local historian and diver thinks he's found a Viking wreck, announces his find to the whole bar, and then immediately goes missing. Of course one of the first people he told was his friend and colleague Anna Taylor-Ryan, who is once again involved in one of Ryan's cases. Soon there's a second murder and Ryan must untangle the web of past relationships in the village to get to the truth. Not quite as exciting as some in the series but still a good read and I totally failed to predict the killer. As a scuba diver myself, the diving parts weren't too far off. I've dived with seals off the Farnes and what Alex says about them being like friendly labradors is absolutely true.

Enjoyed this latest tale in the DC Ryan series though I didn't guess the perpetrator this time and found the underwater scenes a bit gruesome. I am definitely not a watersports fan. Will get it passed onto the next participant after the Christmas/New Year holidays.

Arrived today. Thank you.
I am really enjoying this series. It’s not just the crimes, or the great characters but the history that comes along with Anna. Having been to the Viking Ship Museum with the Oslo Convention (and I still have the calendar on the wall) I could really picture the carved bow and stern of the longboat as it emerged from the murk. It made me think that this would be a great image in a TV series, just like Ryan giving chase on a horse. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Less than half way through I guessed who the murderer was. Nope I was wrong!! A quick read and enjoyable murder mystery. Not sure where this will go but I’ll try and get it moving asap.
