Cover slightly different than that shown.
This is the second book by this author that I have tried but couldn't get into. However, I know I am in the minority as she is a prolific and popular author.

What you have in your hands is an honest-to-goodness gift, no strings attached. You may keep it forever and ever, pass it on to a friend, or release it into the wild like I did.

If you are new to BookCrossing and find this book and this site, welcome! Enjoy the site, the book and hopefully the BookCrossing community. I hope you'll join BookCrossing (it's free!) and if you do, please consider using any previous reader of this book, or me, jessibud, as the member who referred you. Or you may remain anonymous!

If you are an old hand at BookCrossing, thanks for picking up the book! Either way, I hope you'll journal so all the previous and future readers can track this book's journey. Thanks, and happy Crossing!

This was a heartwarming and lovely story about a young woman during WWII who leaves London after her mother dies to train other young woman to grow food and other crops "For the war effort". She ends up moving to an old estate in Devon and has to find a way to win over the other girls so they'll do what they were sent to do. There's a regiment of young Canadian men in the main house, waiting to be posted and the girls live in a smaller house on the estate.

When Gwen first goes to Mosel she is angry, grieving and lonely and sees the worst in everybody because she sees the worst in herself. As time goes by she learns to love herself bit by bit and she finds that other people don't really dislike her and they all form a friendship.

It's also a story about how the things parents say to their children are never ever forgotten and those words, whether kind, angry, hateful, loving....will stay with that child well into adulthood, even after the parent has died.

Gwen had a lonely life and she thought she would always be lonely with only her plants to love. I'm glad to say that she found herself at Mosly.
