I bought this at the Book Nook, a used book emporium here, to accompany NEW STORIES FROM THE SOUTH (1999-The Year's Best) In that book Tony Earley has a wonderful essay on one of Miss Welty's most brilliant stories, "Why I Live at the PO." I've read it and I heard Miss Welty read it in person once. It is one of the best stories ever! This collection, copyright 1980, won the National Book Award. Miss Welty published many collections of short stories. She is considered a master of the form.
