A fascinating read about the rise of Nazism in Germany prior to WW2 and those that that had the courage to fight against it. Ruth Becker and her cousin Dora Fabian were very close and with Dora’s sometimes lover and famous novelist and playwright, Ernst Toller, and Ruth’s husband Hans, they were fighting facism in Germany. With the rise of Hitler’s power they had to leave Germany in 1933 and relocated to London where they continue their fight against the Nazi regime. A story of faith, courage and determination and what it means to stand up for your beliefs against a tyrannical regime.

This is my second reading of this story, my first, checking on a previous review - long ago, apparently wasn't a good experience (maybe the timing just wasn't right). However, on this reading, I quickly became engaged. This book is an excellent example of how best true stories can be converted into novels, without sacrificing either authenticity or readability. Worth reading.
