Zana Muhsen was born in Birmingham and at 15 her father sent her and her younger sister Nadia on a holiday to Yemen to stay with relatives. It was not a holiday at all, their father had sold the girls into marriages to young boys in Yemen. They were both living in remote villages with no power and no running water. The fathers in law ruled their families and all the women had to work hard and were not allowed to go anywhere. They were raped and beaten and had to give birth on bare mud floors with no medical assistance. Zana never gave up hope of getting back to England, and after 8 years she did eventually get home to Birmingham but she had to leave her son behind, and her sister refused to leave without her children. At the time of writing Zana was still trying to get her sister out of Yemen. A horrific true story of what happened to these young innocent girls.
