Journal Entry 1 by discoverylover from Wellington City, Wellington Province New Zealand on Sunday, August 21, 2022
This is the second time I've read this and although it took me a little bit longer to get into it this time, I still thoroughly enjoyed it! It's so refreshing to read a book with lingo that matches the country I'm from, and I loved the characters!
Really enjoyed this one! I agree with Discoverylover that all the language and references to NZ things was cool to read - a lovely change from everyone trying to set all young adult writing in America (even if the author isn't from America).
It also fixes one of the problems I always had with Harry Potter (well, it also fixes the biggest problem, because the author of this book isn't a raging TERF), that the students actually study real subjects (and sit NCEA exams!) alongside studying magic. It always bothered me that the Harry Potter characters never learnt any maths or English or science - surely even wizards need to be able to work out a budget and basic life skills like that?
Passing it on to the fourth member of our bookclub today.
