I got this little hardcover at local independent bookstore Toadstool Books.
It has some entertaining details before you even get to the text: the dust jacket front and back have images of happy cats peering through a window, while the hardcover underneath has the same cats in the same window - but in the process of toppling the Christmas tree amid other mayhem! Oh, and the front endpapers are styled like Christmas-themed gift-wrap or wallpaper, with the cute cats and other motifs - and the back endpapers show the same images but with the paper shredded in places and the cats tumbling down...
The content itself is a retelling of "Twelve Days of Christmas," starting with "my true love gave to me a kitten under the tree," and escalating through batting bows, shredding paper, and chasing ribbons, all the way to "a-climbing" - at which point the cats knock the Christmas tree over and chaos ensues! The illustrations are fun - with little details, such as in the post-tree-felling scene, where one of the cats is happily rubbing its face against the newly-accessible stump of the tree...
The book closes with a gallery of the real-world cats who inspired the illustrations.
