A Puffin Book
published by Penguin Books
Ishi's dreams were haunted by the Monster train that came roaring through his valley each sunrise and sunset. Could it really be that one day this Monster would carry him away from the land of the Yana, all the way to the outer Ocean?
This is the true story of Ishi, one of the last few survivors of an American Indian tribe, which was wiped out by gold-prospecting white men more than a hundred years ago.

[Ex library, St John's School, Teachers Library, where ever that is...possibly Scotland? I found this in a charity shop in Edinburgh, perhaps around 2015? The books condition is compromised, it is coming apart and I do hope future readers look after it carefully. Is this, a book that needs to be re-published with a new foreword by a Native American?]

Stunning book, not entirely chirpy given one of topics, but compassionately created and fascinating.
Passed into the hands of Poodlesister at an Old Gang, Edinburgh BookCrossers Meet-Up just a few minutes ago. Yup, knew this was, like the other book I passed to you today, The Grand Finale by Janet Evanovich on your wish-list. Cheers rainbow3.
