This showed up on our bookshelf in Mallorca - I'm not even sure how long it's been there, and have no idea who left it. Looks interesting.

I am not sure how this wound up on our shelf in Mallorca, but I am very glad it did. As is often the case, I plunged in without the slightest idea what it was about, so in this era of rampant AI chat etc it was wildly relevant. (That's why I fudged a bit with the labels on Goodreads- sci fi but contemporary...).
The fact that this was published in 2018 (that's the earliest publication date I find) and was presumbably written at least a bit before publication makes it clear that all ideas are somewhere in the ether and swirl together at some point.
This reminds me of that impression having read a Marge Piercy novel (He, She, It?) which I read before I was aware or fully understood the implications of the World Wide Web (so to speak), and which it seems to me she had to have written in the very early days of the internet. Of course, I read that book a very long time ago so don't really remember it very well and may be completely off. Later, thinking back on it, it felt like something of a premonition.
I was amused and alarmed by the puppet masters here, although (no spoilers...?) I preferred those which were benevolent.
A fun read.
