The Last Astronaut

I have to be honest, I didn't read this straight through but I skimmed through it. This book is about a former astronaut who was forced to abort a mission to Mars after an accident took the life of one of her crew and was threatening the lives of everyone else. This disaster forced NASA to stop manned missions so our protagonist became "the last astronaut." Anyway, extra-terrestrials are sending SOMETHING to Earth, and they need SOMEBODY who has at least some space experience to teach and lead the newbies. The ending I found was really touching. But like Commander Sally Jensen, this book deserves a chance to get off my bookshelf and go traveling. Who knows---maybe this book will wind up on Mars!
