The Voyage of the Frog

This book was published over 30 years ago. Were kids made of stronger stuff then? I can't quite imagine nowadays a parent allowing a fourteen year old to go out into the ocean alone, or other seafarers leaving him to go on with a good luck and good bye.
This story is very similar to The Hatchet in concept - a teenager is alone in a tough situation against the elements, and has to use his wits to stay alive. There is action, of course, but most important, in Paulsen's books, is to keep calm, be observant, think things through. I love the ending, which is better than Hatchet's surprise rescue.
