1 journaler for this copy...
I got this hardcover at a local thrift shop, for another release copy. (I first noticed this book at about the same time that Life After People aired on TV - a documentary on a similar theme but apparently not connected with this book at all.)
The book's partly an academic exercise in wondering just what would happen to the world if all humans suddenly and simultaneously disappeared; how long would it take for nature to reclaim the cities, what would the long-term effects be of our current state of pollution, etc. But interwoven with the speculation are extensive passages on real-world examples: cities abandoned during civil wars, and how quickly their infrastructure fell apart; the increasing saturation of the world with plastic debris that, while it might break apart, does not decompose; even the question of what would happen if the world's huge oil and gas refineries were to blow up or go into uncontrolled burns. Scary thoughts indeed...
