For York Eagle and Child

Picked up at the May York BookCrossing meetup. Didn't really like The Virgin Suicides but heard a lot about this one, so giving it a go.

*MINOR SPOILERS* I tried, but I still don't get on with this author's writing style. Having introduced the main character and hinted at some interesting life experiences, he then goes off on a "family saga" spin and starts talking about his grandparents and their incestuous marriage. So the reason for Cal's genetic mutation is pretty much laid out there and then in the first couple of chapters. I feel like it would have been far more intriguing if this had been something that Cal had found out later in the narrative when he's searching for answers, and that the reading experience would have been better if we had found out alongside him.
