I got this hardcover at a yard sale in Hudson NH on this warm day. It's the third book in the "Folk of the Air" series about political turmoil and emotional angst between mortals and fae.

I'd read How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories a while back - it's set in the same 'verse and looks at some events in the life of Prince Cardan, one of the main characters in the series. While I did enjoy some of those stories, I wasn't intrigued enough to read the original books; it's clear that the characters have a really terrible time through much of the narrative {wry grin}.

I do love the cover-art in the whole series. This one, with its broken crown, crushed berries, and snake, all on a background of shattered ice, is very evocative.
