Burble: High adventure and dark mystery combine in this sparkling historical romance.
Elinor Bascombe, widowed and tied to an impoverished estate, has learned to ask little of life. With no hope of leaving, the years have passed her by.
Lord Ryde, exiled abroad after a scandal, has returned to strip his estate and make a new start in America.
A chance encounter changes their plans, plunging Elinor and Lord Ryde into adventure and not a little peril until, finally, they are forced to confront the mystery of what happened on That Night, all those years ago.
Are they both so entangled in the riddles of the past that they are about to miss this one last opportunity for future happiness?
A BACHELOR ESTABLISHMENT by JODI TAYLOR (2015) | ISBN: 1-4722-6547-5 / 978-1-4722-6547-0 (UK PB) | Publisher: Headline

Bought as a between lockdowns treat in 2021 sometime. Happily it boded well to combine three fun things, an thrilling edge of mystery & suspense, a dash of Regency Romance, and the sparkling humour of Jodi Taylor I'd encountered before. No needless consideration required, this was snatched off to the till as fast as seen!

Ah, looks like I whizzed through this engaging amusement in 2021 and 2022, I enjoyed it so much. An utter treat of sparkling humour! A convincing tale of mystery, lost fortunes, lost futures and lost reputations and all, suffering an enormous and astonishing sea change.
Ah, yes, a spoiler, but then again it's a Regency Romance so such a sea change is on the cards!

This arrived in a parcel from rainbow3 at the beginning of February 2023. Thanks.
an author I know of and have read much of, but not in this genre.

Ah ha, apologies for 2 entries in 1 on the same day but I never journaled this when I received it and somehow this just fell into my hands and was devoured eagerly quick as a flash.
I do have to agree with rainbow3 that this is indeed
"A convincing tale of mystery, lost fortunes, lost futures and lost reputations and all, suffering an enormous and astonishing sea change.".
I did like the fact that somehow this fluff tale of a very competent woman and a damaged returnee come to terms with the situation they find themselves in, in an almost unbelievable believable manner. Well written and engaging.
I may have a plan for this but wait and see .....
