The books in this series are all "mystreries", but not all mysteries are equal.
This one, for a change, was a hast-paced whodunnit with an intricate puzzle for the reader - and the characters - to solve. The murderer did not succeed in killing the victim - this is a children's book, after all! - but did leave him amnesiac and incapable of testifying. The adults being concerned with looking after the victim, the children set out in pursuit of the fugitive, heading for Delphi and then Athens.
In addition to the whodunnit plot, there is also plenty of human interest - the rivalry between the brothers, the tangle of unrequited romantic relationships. I hope Nikos's works out in the end, and I really feel for Nubia.
As always, I am not collecting this series, so for release, possibly in the bookshop where I bought Colossus (and, today, Sirens and Charioteer
Previous book: The Colossus of Rhodes
Next book: The Sirens of Surrentum
