I really liked this story!
Probably this is more like what Halloween is all about ... about death.
So, there are many traditions - many believs - many ways. So, I liked that.
For the people that are against celebrating Halloween, maybe this would be something to consider. It's not so much about the fact that can put Christians to doubts... maybe, just shouldn't.
Isn't it we that we decide in the end. And there always may be people that have different understandings and interpretations on our topics... that should not spoil the topic for us for good.
OK- maybe I'm taking it too far... just so, that it made me think about this dilemma on celebrating Halloween (as we had in my surrounding a few years back)...
As actually for this story... I think this is a great Halloween novel for kids (not too small kids, since there also is a short part of cruelty in it) - it's really an exciting night for the eight friends and it is taking a good end since they have been so brave, caring and supporting!
