Well, that's a surprise this is my 2nd copy of UNNATURAL HABITS reg with BC. Seems I'd forgotten making a swift purchase, registration & release with my first copy, in order that it could travel in the Third Round of the ‘WORLD OF CRIME BOOKBOX’. Highly amusing as I am currently preparing this copy for said Bookbox's return showing as Round Four! What a hoot!
---------------------

Book burble: The decidedly raven-haired Miss Phryne Fisher returns to delve deep into the dark cellars of Melbourne.

1929: Girls Pretty, little, golden-haired girls are going missing in Melbourne. But they're not just pretty. Three of them are pregnant, poor girls from the harsh confines of the Magdalene Laundry. People are getting nervous.

Polly Kettle, a pushy, self-important Girl Reporter with ambition and no sense of self preservation, decides to investigate - and promptly goes missing herself.

It's time for Phryne and Dot to put a stop to this and find Polly Kettle before something quite irreparable happens to all of them. It's all piracy and dark cellars, convents and plots, murder and mystery .... and Phryne finally finds out if it's true that blondes have more fun.

Greenwood is one of those authors whose books I buy swiftly, if I see her name on the cover. Her offerings are a finely balanced mix of entrainment and social commentary and therefore exciting and original reads. Without fail they plunge the reader into a period setting that's rewardingly rich in historical detail. Gritty paths are travelled, dark corners investigated, while page-turner endings that are invariably deadly and desperate races to save innocents are provided.

Curiously, the second copy of this book I've added to Plum-Crazy’s ‘WORLD OF CRIME BOOKBOX'. Previously missing the chance to read my first copy, [added, in 2020, to round 3 of this bookbox] I bought another copy of this which is now being added to round 4. Having read a whole lot more of the series, since 2020, via my local library, I decided to go ahead read this, volume [No. 19] and add it to this bookbox. Greenwood's writing is a treat.

Thank you very much, plum-crazy, for the lovely Christmas parcel that arrived this morning! I love Christmas and getting Christmas cards and wrapped presents to go under the tree and books to read - and everything about it, especially getting parcels through the post! It's all wonderful, thank you :-)

I've enjoyed some Phryne Fisher mysteries in the past but not for a long time, so I'm sure I'll enjoy spending time back in her company! I've even seen some of the TV adaptations - but wasn't so keen. They're OK - but what appeared on screen wasn't quite what I'd envisioned: it rarely is!

Magdalen laundries, abusive priests, white slavery . . . what else do you need to cheer you up on a chilly winter day? :-) Of course, Phryne Fisher and co save the day in their usual efficient fashion . . .

Thanks again - highly entertaining, even if I had read if before! Almost as soon as I started reading, I realised it was familiar - and my records tell me I read it as an ebook in April 2017, long enough ago that reading it again wasn't a problem!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

This is one of the books I swapped at the bus stop after visiting family in Topcliffe this afternoon.

Nearly two million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 over thirteen million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
