I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway - I am very glad to have gotten a chance to read it. This book is a mix of a recounting of the author's personal health journey and thoughtful musings on the healthcare system and the experience of chronic illness. It was a slow read but thought-provoking.

I found her reporting and discussions more engaging than her own story, partly because descriptions of symptoms coming and going just aren't fascinating. (I have migraines and hearing about my pain is boring even to me.) Only qualm is she could have had more recognition of her privilege throughout. The money and time she has to devote to her health is not typical, and it's continuously surprising that she's able to be employed even when she's incredibly sick.

I'd recommend this both to people with chronic illness and those without - anyone with a body and a relationship to the healthcare system. Especially doctors who should learn more about the patient experience. They can't necessarily change the system as an individual but they can get an idea of how stacked the US is against patients.
