Let's go back to 1985 & meet Brian - a teenager with sensitive and artistic pretensions, bad acne & a love of Kate Bush. Leaving home, he goes off to Uni where he falls for the beautiful but out-of-his-league Alice...so what does he do to get her attention? He signs up for the University Challenge team of course!
But as we all know, the path of true love never runs smooth & it certainly doesn't for Brian. However, he's a romantic & won't give up the girl of his dreams - despite some very embarrassing encounters with her parents which are funny but cringe worthy (Boxing Day in particular springs to mind) Does he make it onto University Challenge? Does he end up with Alice? Well, that would be telling but let's just say these things are never straightforward...
This is a great read that's guaranteed to make you smile & give you the giggles. Be you male or female & whether you went to uni or not, there's surely some aspect that you'll identify with & will take you back to your late teens. Five stars as I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
Oh...& I loved the way each chapter opens with a question whose answers connects...albeit sometimes loosely...to the events unfolding.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
One of three books on their way to a Sweepstake Winner - hope they like at least one of them!
Part of an incredibly generous package that arrived today for me - thank you so much! And a letter - usually my bookcrossing recipients are lucky if I remember to stick a post it in before I seal up the envelope… ! A lovely surprise. I’ve read this one before but really enjoyed it and look forward to rereading.
a re-read for me which is rare with fiction - enjoyed just as much as the first time!
